Dermatological scalp examination

Examination overview

The scalp is often overlooked — until symptoms such as increased hair loss, itching, dandruff or sensitivity appear. Yet the scalp can reveal a great deal about the condition of the skin, as well as the internal balance of the body.

A dermatological scalp examination allows for a precise assessment of the underlying cause and establishes a clear, medically grounded plan for treatment or care.

Interestingly, scalp concerns rarely have a single cause — they are often the result of a combination of genetic, hormonal, inflammatory and external factors. For this very reason, they require an individualised and carefully guided approach.

How is the examination performed?

The examination is carried out by a consultant dermatologist through a detailed analysis of the scalp and hair.

During the examination:

  • the condition of the scalp is assessed (redness, flaking, inflammation)
  • the density and quality of the hair is analysed
  • the pattern of hair loss is evaluated

Where appropriate, additional methods are used:

  • scalp dermoscopy (trichoscopy)
  • laboratory recommendations
  • further diagnostic analyses

The aim is to clearly identify the cause of the concern and to determine the most suitable therapeutic approach.

Who is the examination for?

The examination is recommended for individuals who:

  • notice increased hair loss
  • experience hair thinning or changes in density
  • have an itchy, flaky or sensitive scalp
  • have chronic scalp concerns

It is also ideal for those wishing to monitor the condition of their hair and scalp on a preventative basis.

Our approach

Scalp concerns demand more than a superficial assessment — they require a true understanding of the underlying cause.

At our clinic, the examination is conducted by a consultant dermatologist with extensive experience in a clinical setting. We approach each patient on an individual basis, devoting ample time to thorough analysis and unhurried consultation.

We do not focus on the symptom alone — but rather on the wider context: lifestyle, hormonal status and the history of the concern.

We explain the cause and the therapeutic plan to our patients clearly, as we believe that confidence comes from understanding and trust.

Preparing for the examination

No special preparation is required for the examination, however the following is recommended:

  • arrive with a clean scalp (free of styling products)
  • avoid washing your hair immediately before the examination (where possible)
  • bring along any relevant medical records

Recovery and precautions

There is no recovery period following the examination — it is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure.

Should further procedures or therapy be indicated, the doctor will provide tailored recommendations.

When are the results visible

The findings of the examination are available immediately.

The patient receives:

  • a diagnosis or a suspected cause of the concern
  • a recommendation for therapy or further investigations
  • a plan for monitoring and follow-up

With therapy, the first results appear gradually, depending on the cause and the chosen approach.

Treatment combinations

Based on the diagnosis, the therapeutic approach may incorporate a combination of medical and technological solutions:

  • Candela Nordlys — for certain inflammatory and vascular changes of the scalp
  • Morpheus8 — to stimulate the skin and improve tissue quality
  • Icoone Laser Med — to enhance microcirculation and support scalp regeneration
  • CO2 Smaxel — in specific indications for skin regeneration

In addition:

  • individually prescribed therapy (topical or systemic)
  • medical dermocosmetics
  • a plan for monitoring and long-term follow-up

Every approach is built upon a precise diagnosis — for without it, a quality outcome cannot be achieved.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Here you’ll find answers to the questions our clients most often ask about our services and treatments.

+ Is it normal for hair to fall out?
A degree of physiological hair loss is entirely normal, but when it becomes more pronounced or persistent, it often points to an underlying cause that warrants further investigation.
+ Can the cause be identified precisely?
In a great many cases, yes. Through a combination of clinical examination, medical history and additional analyses, it is possible to define the cause of the concern with precision.
+ Will I receive treatment straight away?
Yes — following the examination you will receive a clear plan, which may include therapy, further diagnostics or a combined approach.
    + Is the examination painful?
No — the examination is entirely non-invasive and comfortable.
+ Can hair loss be stopped?
It depends on the underlying cause, but in a great many cases it is possible to significantly slow or stabilise the process, particularly when addressed in good time.
+ Should I wait for the concern to worsen?
No — early intervention yields far better results than a delayed response.
+ Why not simply try over-the-counter products?
Without a clear diagnosis, such an approach often results in lost time and a further deterioration of the condition.
